What childcare options does DeKiTa offer in Dessau-Roßlau?
DeKiTa provides care for children in 14 day-care centers, 8 after-school clubs, and one youth club in different parts of the City of Dessau-Roßlau.

How and when can I register my child at a day-care center?
You can register your child with us online or in writing. Registration is non-binding. Please register in good time, ideally six months before you would like care to begin. A separate registration form must be completed for each child.

How and when do I register my child for an after-school care place?
You can register your child online or in writing for an after-school care place at one of our facilities. Registration is non-binding.
As a rule, registration should be completed by the end of February for the coming school year. A separate registration form must be completed for each child.
Please note: Children officially start school on 1 August of the year in which they first attend school, as the kindergarten year usually ends on 31 July.

What documents do I need for admission to a day-care center?
Once you have received confirmation of a day-care place, at least six months before the desired start of care, the following documents are required for admission:
- Copy of the identity card(s) of the legal guardian(s) or a valid residence permit
- Copy of the child’s birth certificate
- Copy of an extract from the custody register pursuant to Section 58a SGB VIII, if applicable
(parental responsibility declaration for unmarried parents) - Copy/copies of child benefit notification(s)
- Copy of the child’s vaccination booklet, including proof of measles vaccination in accordance with vaccination recommendations
- Information on the desired care hours
- Completed application for sibling discount, where applicable
(only for biological or adopted siblings)
When and how will I find out whether my child has received a place at the desired facility?
You will receive confirmation of a day-care place at least six months before the desired start of care. This confirmation will tell you which facility your child can attend. One of DeKiTa’s key aims is to provide every child with a suitable care place close to home. However, individual facilities may occasionally have limited capacity, so a place at the preferred facility cannot always be guaranteed.
In such cases, we will initially offer an alternative place until a place at the desired facility becomes available.
Consultation hours:
Tuesday: 8.00-12.00 AM and 13.30-17.30 PM
Thursday: 8.00-12.00 AM and 13.30-16.00 PM
How long is the settling-in period for my child?
The settling-in period is very important to us. In close cooperation with parents, we ensure a gentle, individual transition so that your child can make a positive start to day-care life.
The settling-in period always begins on the first day of the month stated in the confirmation of your child’s place.
What care hours are available for my child in nursery, kindergarten and after-school care?
The following care hours are available:
Nursery and kindergarten:
For children in nursery and kindergarten, daily care is available from five hours up to ten full hours per day.
After-school care:
In our after-school clubs, care is available during opening hours from three hours up to six full hours per day, except during school holidays.
Eine Betreuung in den Schulferien setzt eine fristgerechte Ferienanmeldung mit höheren Betreuungszeiten voraus. Ihnen entstehen dafür keine zusätzlichen Kosten.
Care during school holidays requires timely registration for holiday care and allows for longer care hours. There are no additional costs. The required PDF form for holiday care or emergency care is available on the Day-Care and After-School Care Contract page.
Do I need to report a change of address?
If your residential address changes, please inform us immediately. If you would also like to register your child at a different facility because of your change of address, please submit an application to change facilities in good time.

Can I change my child’s care hours, and how?
In accordance with Section 4, paragraph 3 of the current statutes on the use of municipal day-care centres in the City of Dessau-Roßlau, changes to care hours are only possible for full calendar months. A written application must be submitted at least three months before the requested change. Exceptions, for example in the case of short-notice employment or other important reasons, are decided by the municipal enterprise at its reasonable discretion. Appropriate proof must be provided.

What payment options are available for day-care or after-school care?
You can pay the monthly parent contribution by bank transfer to the account of DeKiTa Municipal Enterprise, or you can set up a direct debit with us.

By when must the contribution be paid?
The monthly contribution must be paid by the 5th calendar day of the current month if you pay by bank transfer.
If you have set up a direct debit, the amount will be collected on the 15th calendar day of the current month.
How can I de-register a day-care or after-school care place, and what notice periods apply?
In accordance with Section 6 of the currently valid statutes on the use of the municipal day-care facilities of the City of Dessau-Roßlau, parents may terminate their child’s care contract in writing with six weeks’ notice to the end of a month.

The termination must be addressed to the administration of DeKiTa Municipal Enterprise and must include the required signatures.
